Fresno CA Events – More Than Just Raisins!
Tagged the ‘Raisin Capital of the World’, situated in Central Valley, lies Fresno CA events. The city is a blend of culture, commercial success and a caretaker of the natural world. Agriculture used to be the main economic concern but the city is now better known for its blue chip industrial companies. The local people are interested in history too and support the annual Civil War re-enactment, which is one of the largest and long standing events of its kind in the United States.

Woodward Park is one of the most popular spots with the Shinzen Japanese Gardens, walking trails and picnic sites. It’s also the site for the Chaffee Zoological Gardens, which contains a rain forest exhibit, bird show and reptile house. Forestiere Underground Gardens is probably the most unusual attraction in Fresno California. The subterranean gardens contain fruit trees and a labyrinth of passageways and courts.

There are many art and cultural activities in the Fresno California area. The Fresno Metropolitan Museum has a permanent collection and changing exhibitions, talks and educational programs. It also has a respected Science Center. Fresno Art Museum isn’t just a collection of artwork but a venue for screening films. These are international movies, classic films and anime. Arte Americas is a center that showcases Latino art exhibitions and performing arts. There are two annual film festivals, the Fresno Film Festival and the Fresno Reel Pride, an exhibition of gay and lesbian cinema.
Music Events
Music fans are catered for too and the recently built indoor arena, the Save Mart Center has attracted some big name stars in rock and pop. It’s also the home venue for basketball and ice hockey teams. The city has its own orchestra, the Fresno Philharmonic and the Fresno Grand Opera produces critically acclaimed opera and concerts.
The region has several vineyards and has gained a reputation for its production of fine wines for events today, especially dessert wine and port. Wines from the Fresno California area include Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Muscat and Cabernet Shiraz. Dining offers a lot of variety in the city with Italian restaurants, Japanese, Mexican, steakhouses and those specializing in local seafood.
